Shared Living / Independent Living Supports

Residential Support

At Mobius there is no one size fits all. Service recipients, their families and natural supports will find that Mobius has a unique approach to “building home”. Using a strengths-based approach and value-based planning tools residential support can take a variety of forms. Service recipients may receive intermittent, hourly support while they live in their own apartment or choose to reside in a residence with more intense forms of support, such as 24/7 support in a group or roommate living situation.

Mobius community case management services are provided to help individuals and their families experience growth while fostering independences and integration. Our services included Comprehensive Assessments, development or assisting with the development of Person Centered Plans (PCP), referrals and coordination of health and wellness appointments, Rep payee services. Behavioral Health Services

Behavioral Health Services is a service that includes outpatient, individual or group therapy, and home and community-based treatment with a special focus on individuals with the dual diagnoses of intellectual disability and mental illness. Assessment, service planning and goal setting are based on the strengths and needs of the individual. Psycho-education, crisis resolution, and crisis management are also available.

Statewide Non-Traditional Communication (NTC) Consultation

Statewide Non-Traditional Communication Consultation is an approach that uses what the person has (signs, gestures, speech, picture-based communication) to allow us to be better communication partners so that communication success can happen. Since the program’s inception in 2001, over 1,000 adults and children have been assessed and/or provided consultation.

Key Partners

The United Way of Midcoast Maine has been a long time, critical supporter of the Mobius Summer Youth Employment Program. This program aims to provide youth ages 14 – 21, with varying disabilities, with their first “summer job” experience. A person’s first experience with paid employment is empowering and through on-the-job skill-building sets them up for future, long-term employment.

Direct Support Professional

POSITION SUMMARY:
Principal responsibilities involve provision of direct support to clients of Mobius services as identified within person-centered plans. Emphasis will be on providing skill teaching and/or identifying adaptations that enable clients to function as independently as possible in desired roles and in specified environments.

Agency History

The Agency was established in 1978 by a group of educators and parents whose children were attending the Longfellow School in Bristol and their adult children were attending community support services in Bath.

1978 – 1982 – Rented space in 2 locations; Mills Road and in basement of Damariscotta Police Dept

1983 – Group Homes completed; Tom Handel becomes Executive Director and formalized vision of “valued roles in the community”. Services based out of our Group Home in Newcastle.

1997 – David Lawlor becomes Executive Director; completion of current admin location at 319 Main St. Damariscotta

1994 – 2014 – Rapid expansion of service offerings including Residential – 24/7 home supports; hourly supports and shared living; Employment – United Way MCM partnership & Vocational Rehabilitation job development work; Community – shift from sheltered workshop model to community-based & accelerated independence; case management

2014 - Mental Health – opened outpatient counseling specializing in dual diagnosis

2015 – Rebecca Emmons becomes Executive Director and agency begins to move toward offering Integrated and Outreach Services.

2018 – Chandler House on Academy Hill Road completed; providing apartment living for 5 adults and 24/7 home supports for 2 adults.

2019 – Reopened children’s services programming including case management and Section 28 in-home services.

2020-2023 – Global Pandemic – closure and consolidation of some Group Living Homes, Suspension of Children’s Services.

2022 – Michaela York becomes Executive Director and focuses on the HCBS Waiver Requirements and Lifespan Waiver Services.

Listed below are the Employment requirements and qualifications for Direct Support Professionals (DSP). All of our positions require the same basic requirements set in the DSP requirements.
A Direct Support Professional (DSP) is a person who provides Home Support, Work Support or Community Support.
A Program Coordinator – or DSP II is a site supervisor responsible for coordinating the day-to-day operations at one of our 20+ residential locations.

Requirements:

  • Be at least 18 years of age; and
  • Has graduated from high school or acquired a GED
  • Has a clean driving record and a valid driver’s license.
  • Has successfully completed the Direct Support Professional curriculum as adopted by DHHS (agency-based training available)
  • Has a background check consistent with Section 21.10-5;
  • Has satisfactory findings on an adult protective and child protective record check
