The Agency was established in 1978 by a group of educators and parents whose children were attending the Longfellow School in Bristol and their adult children were attending community support services in Bath.
1978 – 1982 – Rented space in 2 locations; Mills Road and in basement of Damariscotta Police Dept
1983 – Group Homes completed; Tom Handel becomes Executive Director and formalized vision of “valued roles in the community”. Services based out of our Group Home in Newcastle.
1997 – David Lawlor becomes Executive Director; completion of current admin location at 319 Main St. Damariscotta
1994 – 2014 – Rapid expansion of service offerings including Residential – 24/7 home supports; hourly supports and shared living; Employment – United Way MCM partnership & Vocational Rehabilitation job development work; Community – shift from sheltered workshop model to community-based & accelerated independence; case management
2014 - Mental Health – opened outpatient counseling specializing in dual diagnosis
2015 – Rebecca Emmons becomes Executive Director and agency begins to move toward offering Integrated and Outreach Services.
2018 – Chandler House on Academy Hill Road completed; providing apartment living for 5 adults and 24/7 home supports for 2 adults.
2019 – Reopened children’s services programming including case management and Section 28 in-home services.
2020-2023 – Global Pandemic – closure and consolidation of some Group Living Homes, Suspension of Children’s Services.
2022 – Michaela York becomes Executive Director and focuses on the HCBS Waiver Requirements and Lifespan Waiver Services.
